Tuesday Ramblings

Nothing sweeter, is there?

Summer threw a small metal garbage can at Camryn last night and got her face pretty good. You can see a little of the scratch and bruise in the photo below but it looks a lot worse in person.

We had a long talk about how to deal with anger. My kids were never aggressive with each other up until a month or two ago. Now it’s full on war half of the day. Does Yo Gabba Gabba have an episode on hitting? I know they never tried to bite anyone after hearing their song about biting. Don’t. Don’t. Don’t bite your friends.

This morning I went on a tour of one of the schools we might send Summer and Camryn to. I got a really good vibe and think that it would be a great choice. Now, we have to decide whether I can handle driving an hour round trip twice a day to take them. And then, even if we do decide to apply there, they keep the class sizes really small, and only have two kindergarten classes. The counselor giving us the tour said that last year 160 kids applied, and only 48 were accepted. And THEN on top of all of that, if this school is our first choice, we have to put a regular neighborhood school as our second choice. So if she doesn’t get into the one we want her to go to, she will be sent to another school that isn’t nearly as good. Elementary isn’t too bad, and there are one or two good ones that I wouldn’t totally hate, but the middle and high schools that these regular elementary schools around here feed into are downright horrible.

It sure does feel awful not to be in control of your own child’s education. What a system.

I think we will just have to make the best decision we can with the information we have, and hope for the best. That’s all we can really do.

This evening, Joe had a plumbing class (a course to prepare for testing in a few months), so the girls and I went with my mom, aunt Susan, and cousin Richard to see Harry Potter. I had heard that this new Harry Potter was a bit darker than the others. If Joe would have been home, I probably would have left the girls with him. They did really good though. They’re pretty understanding of movies vs. real life so I wasn’t too concerned. I would have preferred to take them to see Tangled, but my cousin wasn’t having that.

We decided to get a real Christmas tree again this year. We had one last year and loved it. Hopefully tomorrow we can go pick one up and get it decorated. Last Christmas we didn’t even have furniture in our living room yet, so I’m really excited to see what it’s all going to look like this year.

Thanks for all the nice comments on my pictures :) I’m having so much fun. Hopefully as my camera and I get to know each other more, I’ll be able to really get creative. My friend is almost 9 months pregnant, so I’ll be getting to try out my skills on a baby Gracie really soon. I can’t wait!

They have one about keeping your hands to yourself. "Keep your hands to yourself, keep your hands to yourself, keep your hands to yourself..keep your hands to yourself." Maybe you could write them and suggest a "no throwing trash cans at your friends (sister)" one.

Poor girl!! Her eye looks painful! HA

Tangled was such a good movie. Seriously, the cutest kids movie that I have seen in awhile. I haven't seen Harry Potter yet, but the final part split into two turns me away. I will probably wait until it comes out and watch them at the same time.

I cannot wait to see pictures of the tree. I love the Holidays! Happy Tree Finding!

love the photos!!!!! ...!!!
:)

i'm thinking you can find out if they'll be building new schools in the coming years or rezoning (if they do school zones there)
we were in the best elementary zone, but would have fed into two of the "lesser" middle/high schools...until they built the new ones and rezoned.
we would have moved again to stay out of that middle school.

have fun finding a tree! i love a real one :)

Soo funny -- we have a picture of my sister and I in the bath when we were little that's almost identical to the last one of yours! Love it.

Oh my heavenly cuteness...the picture of both of them in the bath, and the wrinkled toes picture totally killed me. The pictures are fantastic, you crazy creative genius, you.

Goodness! Hope her eye feels better! I hope that Summer gets into the school that you want for her. It seems messed up how that system works!

What are you basing your "horrible" assessment of the upper grades? Is it low graduation rates? Discipline issues? Word of mouth? A lot can change in the 6 or so years it will take your girls to go through the elementary school. Don't be too worried about the upper grades just yet. With staff changes and, I am sure, state regulations, many schools will evolve in that amount of time. Take it one day, one year at a time.

Stephanie-Your photos are beautiful!!!! You are so talented!!! I am just in awe!! You'll have to tell me what school you guys are looking at! I am just stumped for Aubrynn, not to mention avoiding the whole decision process. It really shouldn't be this hard!
