Recently, because of very adventurous and determined children, we put latches towards the tops of some of our doors so we don't have to worry about them going into rooms they aren't supposed to be. We used the latches instead of the safety door knob covers because they figured out long ago how to remove the door knob covers.
Last week, I was sitting in the living room when I heard my bedroom door open. I knew I had closed the latch and Summer wasn't in the room, so I got up to investigate. Sure enough, the latch was un-done and Summer had gone into my room. I asked her how she had gotten in there.
"I don't know," she said.
I was trying to figure out how a 3 foot tall person could undo a latch that was 3 feet taller than them. "Summer, can you show me how you opened the door?" I put her in the hallway, closed the door, and latched it shut. I watched as she picked up her "popcorn popper", one of those classic toys that the kids push around and the little balls pop around in the clear thing. She raised it up, standing on her tip toes, and used the end to push the latch up, then opened the door. I couldn't help but laugh. She sure must have been determined to get into my room to play with my lotion and make-up and make a huge mess.
On a similar note, about 3 minutes ago, I was sitting here looking at a book with Bella. Out of the corner of my left eye, I see Summer inching slowly toward the basement door, arm out-stretched. I look over and tell her, for the millionth time, that she is not allowed to go into the basement by herself. Then I realize that the latch to the basement door had already been opened. Summer saw me look up at it.
"Who do that?!" she exclaimed, watching me closely.
"I don't know... Did you open it?" She hesitates, then says, "Yeaaaaah." She gives me a smile and cocks her head, almost like she wants me to congratulate her for accomplishing that task.
It's gonna be a long day.

Pretty smart kids! I was just looking around my house the other day and thinking that soon Im going to have to child-proof my house again!!!
Lol, smart girls! Our bedroom door is sort of broken so I always keep an eye out, thank gosh no makeup run ends yet....
Wow you sure have your hands full. Those little girls are too funny :)
Girl I know how you feel. Chase is the same way and sometimes you can't help but laugh at how their little mind works. They are smarter than we give them credit for.
Oh my gosh that is so funny! What a smart and creative girl!
LMAO How funny! "Who do that?" HAHAHAH. :) Good luck w/ that fireball!
Seriously, she's a smart and determined little girl. :)
And obviously not a very good actress. LOL
haha :) Summer is too smart for her own good!
...we had to zip tie the child safety handles onto the knobs so that Eli can't get them off!
