I'm really disappointed.
Out of 15 comments on my poem about my beloved Livermush, only two people shared my sentiments.
And they were both my cousins.
You all don't know what you are missing!
My mom's family is from Charlotte, NC. Her parents grew up eating Livermush, and when they moved to Louisville in the 50's, they were really disturbed to learn that it isn't sold up here! Throughout my mom's life they would get a bunch every time they visited down South, or visiting relatives would bring it up here for them. Once I was born, this continued and I developed a love for it. Livermush is coveted in our family, because of it's delciousness, and also because of how rarely we get any. Family members that do not like Livermush are often ostracized and abandoned in the mountains.
Joking :)
If I had never tried it and you asked me if I wanted some, I'd probably say, no way. Liver isn't my cup of tea, as far as I know. But Livermush... well, at this point, it could be made from cow poop and I would still eat it.
Maybe not.
Some of you asked me what it is. From Wikipedia: "Livermush is a Southern United States foodstuff composed of pig liver, head parts, and cornmeal. It is commonly spiced with pepper and sage. Vaguely similar to scrapple, livermush was most likely brought south through the Appalachian mountains by German settlers from Philadelphia...."
Ehhh... I didn't know it contained... head parts. Going to delete that fact from my brain now.

I MAYBE would have tried it, but then you went and described what it was made of, so no thanks. :o) I do remember when we lived in NC, the folks down there loved it.
LOL Livermush is nasty!! BTW.. we are about an hour away from Charlotte.. my hubby works there!
You are too funny!@!! The name didnt sound good to me and neither did the fact that it contained LIVER. I use to watch my grandmother eat liver and onions.....YUCK! No one in my family will eat liver.....we are weird I guess.
I guess we all eat hot dogs, and they are made from lots of different mechanically seperated meat!
Love the new header!
Brandy
Pig Head Parts....yeah, no thanks! ;)

Your header is SO cute, I love love love love it!
Hey I said I liked it but it isn't something I eat all of the time. Not sure the difference between Livermush and Scrapple. I am from Philly so I know it as scrapple.

LMFAO!
Oh Steph, even before finding out what it contained (head parts), I couldn't have eaten it. Not because I'm picky or unwilling to try new things...but because I no longer eat cow or pig parts.
But if I did, I'd try it just for you! :)
If I didn't know what it was I could try it, but liver and head parts? No, thanks!
LMAO!
I used to eat scrapple when I was little...and LOVED IT..until I found out what it was.
..and yeah, it is good with syrup.
Ok, the description of livermush is even worse than the name. aaaaakkk!! head parts??!?! I don't even want to know...
I would still eat it if it had human in it. Seriously. No joke. I mean, I kinda wish it was still mystery meat but nothings going to stop me from eating it. -Katherine
